Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your file bytes never leave your device — if you like, you can watch the Network tab in your browser's developer tools while converting to confirm no request is sent.

Why is the file limit 10 MB?

Because conversion happens locally in your browser, your file stays on your device. The 10 MB limit keeps the process fast and safe on phones and low-end computers, and helps protect against files designed to crash or freeze your browser.

What happens to formulas when I convert to CSV?

CSV stores values only. This converter exports the most recent result saved in the workbook; it does not recalculate formulas. If a formula has no saved result, recalculate and save the workbook in Excel first.

Can I convert a workbook with multiple worksheets?

Yes. Every visible worksheet is converted and, when there is more than one, the CSV files are packed into a single ZIP archive. Each worksheet keeps its own file, so nothing is dropped or merged. Hidden worksheets are skipped for privacy.

Do you support older .xls files?

Yes, the converter accepts both modern .xlsx and legacy .xls (Excel 97-2003) files.

Why does Excel show garbled characters in my CSV?

Excel on Windows expects older-style encodings unless the file starts with a BOM. Choose "UTF-8 with BOM" in the encoding setting so Excel displays accents and non-Latin characters correctly.

What does CSV lose compared to Excel?

CSV keeps only a single table of values. Colors, fonts, merged cells, charts, images, comments, data validation, macros and formulas themselves are not preserved.
